ENCORE FILM PREMIER – JUNE 2016!

This year, Encore members have engaged in a really exciting and completely new venture, creating a variety of fun filmed projects. Each class has created a unique feature, from adverts and a music video to a completely self-written, thought-provoking and beautifully crafted mini feature film, entitled "Care".

These young actors, who are more used to performing live on stage, have learned the many issues and specific techniques that are required for film acting and all have thoroughly enjoyed exploring their inner screen star!

We hope you will all come and enjoy the fruits of their labours, which culminates in a full, red-carpet, black-tie Premier Screening, to be held at the Corn Exchange Theatre on 29th June 2016.

NEW "ELITE" CLASS FOR 16-19 YEARS!

Several Encore members turned 16 last year and yet were keen to continue with classes!

So in September 2015, we introduced an entirely new class for those aged 16-19 years.

The self-named "Elite" class, started work immediately on a short, semi-improvised performance as "Members of the Queens Household" that was performed to honour the Queen's 90th Birthday, during the St George's Day celebrations in Wallingford Town Square in April 2016.

The cast, as various Royal servants and staff, engaged the delighted promenade audience in a search for one of the missing royal Corgies. The actors initiated a dog parade, calling match and even a walk-past by some of the younger audience members, crowned as Royal Grandchildren. This short but entertaining piece was very well received and was certainly a challenge for these older actors, who found acting alfresco an exciting new adventure!

They are now preparing for another devised performance, this time to take place in the Club Room at the Corn Exchange Theatre in November. This performance, inspired by Homer's Ancient Greek epic tale of The Odyssey, sees the actors focus on the trials of Queen Penelope, back on the island of Ithaka.

With a small baby to care for, Penelope weaves her Father-in-Law's shroud by day and cries as she secretly unravels her weaving by night. She hopes vainly for her lost husband's return, whilst finding inventive ways of fending off the unwanted advances of numerous, amorous suitors! See the Corn Exchange website in Autumn 2016, for more details.

ENCORE MEMBERS SHINE IN OUR PANTOMIME!

Once again, in January 2016, Encore members proved their versatility and talent as part of the chorus in the Sinodun Players production of Rapunzel at the Corn Exchange Theatre.

This year, three teams of fairies, from across the classes were involved with several boys and girls landing Principal roles, as Bobbin the Robin and Claws, the witches cat.

On the final night, the cast and crew celebrated the wonderful involvement and honoured the achievements of the Encore members.

The musicians of the pit then surprised the children with a new award for "making the most" of your part, which this year was awarded Joseph Argus for his role as Claws. Well done Joseph and certainly well deserved!

Congratulations to all involved in panto this year and for proving, once again, just how talented, committed and disciplined our young actors can be!

Auditions for members of Encore to take part in next year's panto will be held this Autumn.

FESTIVAL AWARD WINNERS!

In June 2015, we entered the Encore devised production of "Wedding Hiccoughs" as a new, junior entry at the Corn Exchange Drama Festival.

This play was an exciting challenge that brought the plays, created separately by each of the three classes, into one, complete play.

So we were thrilled that this brilliant performance won the Adjudicator's Commended Award! Congratulations to all the children, volunteers and parents who worked so hard to make the show a phenomenal success!

ENCORE'S CONTINUED SUCCESS:

We have a long and very successful history of producing exciting productions and developing the talent, creativity and confidence of local young people, in all aspects of theatre production. Many Encore members have gone on to study drama-related subjects at Further Education, including LAMDA!

Encore members have the chance to appear in show case productions, as well as our annual (award winning) pantomimes, The Wallingford Carnival, Drama Festival entries.

In April 2015, Encore members created a fantastic dancing dragon that danced all around Wallingford Town, before battling St George, culminating in a dramatic final death scene!

We also actively encourage members to get involved in backstage activities too, including making costumes, props and scenery, as well as stage management, lighting, sound and crewing and FOH.

Classes take place on Wednesdays after school in term time, at the Corn Exchange Theatre (unless otherwise notified). There are usually 10 classes per term (excluding half terms).
